Build your own powder horn! The powder horn that participants will be making is a common horn from the late 1700’s or early 1800’s. The base is a turned wooden plug with iron nails. The spout is filled with a fiddle plug stopper. The scrimshawing is basic but is limited only to the builder’s imagination and talent. Horns will be carved using knives and rasps.

About the Instructor
Jimmy Blanks retired from the Department of Game & Inland Fisheriesin 2006 after serving over 28 years as a Law Enforcement Officer. Since then he has devoted his time to building flint lock rifles, hunting pouches, and powder horns, as well as dabbling with a small farm on the Staunton River and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay.
