Specialty Camps
Family Camp
Family camp offers the chance for family members to bond with each other while at the same time experiencing their own level of independence in a safe environment. Participants (youth and adults) take three classes a day, one of which is specifically designated as a family activity. Classes offered include swimming, theatre arts, nature, canoeing, forestry, archery, and more. Afternoons and evenings are filled with special activities such as hikes, canoe trips, and campfires.
Forestry Camp
The Virginia Department of Forestry, in cooperation with natural resource conservation agencies and organizations, has proudly administered Holiday Lake Forestry Camp for almost 60 years. This unique camping experience has introduced young Virginians to the challenges, special skills and knowledge needed for managing the forest resources we use and enjoy every day.
Holiday Lake Forestry Camp is ideal for students:
- to explore and experience activities in forestry and wildlife related careers
- who participate in forestry and wildlife judging teams, Envirothon competitions, or ecology clubs
- to experience hands on learning about natural resources conservation
Classes are taught in the woods by professional foresters, wildlife biologists, and conservation resource specialists. Read more about

Shooting Education Camp
A unique camp open to boys and girls ages 12 to 16 with an interest and/or experience with firearms. Participants will receive 4 days of instruction related to their chosen discipline and consisting of such topics as Shooting Safety Education, Shooting Fundamentals and Theory, and Marksmanship Instruction, and each will have the opportunity to participate in one or more competitive shoots. All instructors are certified through 4-H, VDGIF, NRA, NAA and other National Organizations.
