Summer Camp for the Whole Family!

Family camp, an annual event at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, Virginia. Family camp offers the chance for family members to bond with each other while at the same time experiencing their own level of independence in a safe environment. Participants (youth and adults) take three classes a day, one of which is specifically designated as a family activity. Classes offered include swimming, theatre arts, nature, canoeing, forestry, archery, and more. Afternoons and evenings are filled with special activities such as hikes, canoe trips, and campfires.
Family camp offers a variety of activities for all ages. Lodging is separated by family, with one family in each rustic cabin or bunkhouse room. Space is limited to 25 families. Registration is now underway and will continue until all spots are full. To receive registration information, please call your local Extension Office or Levi Callahan of Holiday Lake 4-H Center at (434) 248-5444.

The Rifle
Rifle kit choices are:
- Lancaster Pennsylvania Germanic style Rifle. This style was used extensively on the early frontier from Pennsylvania down through Virginia and North Carolina. The wood for these rifles is special ordered, upgraded from the standard or fancy grade to extra fancy grade. Component sets have a wooden patchbox kit included. Rifles have a single trigger. The furniture (butt plate, pipes,and trigger guard) is brass. The locks are Chambers deluxe flintlock. The barrels are by Rice barrel company.
- Two sets in .50 caliber with 42" tapered and flared barrels.
- Two sets in .54 caliber with 44" tapered and flared barrels
- One set in a .50 caliber with a 44 inch tapered and flared barrel.

About the Program
- You will pay less for this workshop than you would pay a craftsman to build this custom rifle. The custom rifle you build is yours to keep.
- Small class size with lots of instructor time - 4 to 1 student/teacher ratio.
- Develop basic, beginner level flintlock rifle building skills.
- Firearms will be assembled and capable of firing at the beginning of the class. The student will be instructed on shaping, rasping, sanding, carving, and staining the stock and filing and buffing of the metal parts.
- Rustic but comfortable bunkstyle lodging. Linens not provided.
- Meals and lodging the entire workshop time.

We look forward to seeing you at the Hunter Education Challenge, and wish each competitor the bestpossible outdoor experience!

Registration Checklist
- Each team must register. Five competitors per team. Each team may have two coaches, one must be a certified Hunter Education Instructor or 4-H Shooting Education Instructor.
- A copy of the competitor's Hunter Education card to Hunter Education office or presented at check-in.
- All guests/parents must be registered.You will not be permited to stay if you are not registered.
- On-site lodging will be done in Cabins and Bunkhouses at $30 per night. Tenting and RV spots are very limited and prior arrangments and payments need to be made with the 4-H Center. Do not show up with your camper and tents expecting a spot without making prior arrangements.
- No dogs will be permited on the property unless they are trained service animals.
- Hold Harmless/Code of Conduct forms must be completed for each competitor, coach, and guest on site. Competitors under 18 must have forms signed by parents.

Overnight camp for campers age 12-16 with an interest in exploring the outdoors. This camp provides an opportunity to learn and have fun with peers in a natural setting. Hands-on classes such as wildlife ecology, survival skills, archery or edible insects are taught by quality instructors that will provide a memorable experience.

Want to be a more successful bow hunter? Looking for expert instruction? Then this is the workshop for you!
Cost :$100
Covers meals Friday Dinner-Sunday Lunch, lodging and all instruction. Participants are required to bring their own archery equipment, hunting clothing, treestand with a TMA approved full body harness or ground blind. Proficiency with archery equipment out to 25 yards is required.

A unique camp open to campers ages 12 to 16 with an interest and/or experience with firearms. Participants will receive 4 days of instruction related to their chosen discipline and consisting of such topics as Shooting Safety Education, Shooting Fundamentals and Theory, and Marksmanship Instruction, and each will have the opportunity to participate in one or more competitive shoots. All instructors are certified through 4-H, VDWR, NRA, NAA and other National Organizations.

Water Babies - (4 day course) Open to ages 1 through 4. Designed to orient children to the water. Parents must participate in the water with their child.
Family Water Aerobics: (1-day) Open to all ages. *Participants must be able to touch the bottom of the the 3 foot section of the pool.

Participants must pre-register to attend classes and full payment will be due at the time of registration. Registrations received without payment will be rejected. Classes are held to a maximum of 10 students per class and registrations are taken on a first come first served basis. Course cost is $55 per child and $35 per water baby and is non-refundable. Refunds will NOT be issued for cancellations due to inclement weather. In the event of known inclement weather the instructional staff will make every attempt to contact parents via phone at least one hour prior to the beginning of classes
All parents are encouraged to share in the fun by “getting in” and participating with their children. You will both benefit from the experience! In-water parental participation is required for all children who are less than three feet and six inches tall.
